Latest phone Guide: What's happening around?

The mobile market in the United Kingdom is shimmering these days. Popular brands from other domains are entering, esatblished players are coming up with new handsets and mobile service providers are teaming up to offer you cost-effective communication solutions. The news of the UK launch of LG Shine and Google launching a handset has already created uproars in the market.

World over, Sony Ericsson has announced the launch of its budgeted range of handsets, the SE K200i, SE K220i, SE J110i and SE J120i. The manufacturer expects these handsets will help it reach out to budget conscious consumers and will make him more copetative in the market. Sony ericsson has also announced some addition in its popular Cyber shot and Walkman series range. The Sony Ericsson W880i is claimed to be the slimmest phone in the Walkman range. The SE K810i is an updation of SE K800i model.

Not to be left behind, Motorola has announced the launch of MOTOSLVR L9. The model is an updated version of KRZR with speedy Internet access and video-calling facility.

Nokia has unveiled six new handsets at the recently concluded Barcelona 3GSM event. Three new Eseries handsets, Nokia E61i, E65 and E90 are targeted towards business professionals. The 6110 Navigator is a GPS model which supports 3D navigation software. There has been an addition to the N series with N77 - a mobile TV device offering rich entertainment. Nokia 3110 classic is a mid-range handsets.

Toshiba is on the verge of debuting into the smartphone market. The manufacturer has announced the launch of PORTÉGÉ G500 and the PORTÉGÉ G900 both Windows powered devices.

With so much announcements from many corners it will be interesting to watch the market in the coming months.

The latest in mobile phones: A weekly round-up

New announcements, entry of new players(big names from other domains), rebranding, alliances and more- The mobile market is simmering, to say the least!

NTT DoCoMo, Fujitsu, Renesas Technology, Sharp, Mitsubishi, and Sony Ericsson have decided to come on a single platform to manufacture 3G phones. Team up to cut costs and to be competitive seems the mantra these days.

Ahead of the 3GSM event (scheduled next week) Sony Ericsson has announced 4 latest mobile phones to be launched- K810i, K550i, W880i and W610i in the Cyber-shot and Walkman series. The W880i is 9.4 mm thick which makes it the slimmest in the Walkman series. The K810i and W610i will be available from quarter 2 whereas W880i is expect to start shipping this month.

LG Shine KG970, has been officially unveiled well supported with an attractive and aggressive TAXI ad-campaign.

Good news for smartphone lovers-Palm Treo 750 which till date was exclusive on Vodafone is now available on all networks and can be bought from palm's online store.

The last few months have witnessed the launch of many a handsets in UK. There have been additions in camera phones, music phones, multimedia phones and so on. Here's a round-up (a difficult exercise indeed these days) on the latest mobile phones which have been grabbing headlines...


Camera phones- within shooting distance

The year started with much awaited Nokia N95 with a 5-megapixel camera. Expected to come out in February, it was possibly the biggest news in the market till news of Samsung launching a 10-MP camera outdid it. In the mean while there have been a regular extension in the camera phone family size with Sony Ericsson K750i, Samsung E880, LG's KG920, Nokia N73 and N93 and the SL91 from BenQ-Siemens constantly hogging the limelight.


Music phones- the strumming gizmos

Last year Nokia brought the budgeted version of music phone the Nokia 2626. The music editions of its all popular models and the Nokia N91 8GB has created ripples in the market. The Walkman series of Sony Ericsson has become more richer with the entry of W810, W900 and W950. The chocolate music phone and LG U890 have delighted music lovers, no end.


Designer phones- the muses

Looks sell...and the manufacturers have realized it. From Nokia's L'Amour collection, Sirocco edition to LG chocolate and Sony Ericsson Black diamond, the form factor in mobile phones got revolutionized. Slider, clamshell and flip open design with appealing colours are launched. Smooth surfaces and perfectly edged curves with metallic finishes- the mobile market is getting hotter and hotter.


Multimedia phones- the infotainers

Nokia's N 80 took off to a flyer and the rest followed. Targeting the music, TV, information seeking netizens, the mobile market saw Sony Ericsson W950i, Samsung Black Jack and T-mobile SDA. The makers of Blackberry mobile phones too have added entertaining features in Blackberry Pearl8100 to help you get access to entertainment everywhere.
